Handwritten originals and typewritten translations bound in two volumes, including Exposé de la conduite de M. Titsingh; Edicts of the Emperor of China in reply to the Earl of Macartney, who had solicited, for an English factory at Pekin; Lettre de Créance d'Isaac Titsingh auprès de l'Empereur de la Chine; Lettre de Créance de Macartney; Lettre du Conseil de Batvia à l'Empereur de Chine; L'orde de l'Empereur pour la reception des ambassadeurs anglais; and Cour d'Jedo. "The first papers consist of a defense of the conduct of Isaac Titsingh in his control of the commerce of the Netherlands East India Company. The later papers deal chiefly with the plans for the Dutch embassy to China, under Isaac Titsingh as ambassador, during the years 1784 and 1785"--Prefatory note, v. 1. "The translations of the edicts of the Emperor of China ... treat of the English embassy under Lord Macartney and give the Emperor's reasons for not consenting to the English establishment at Pekin. Vol.1 includes a descriptive list of contents in English copied from a letter from J.J.L. Duyvendak to G.E. Gaskill, dated April 24, 1931 (2 leaves ; 28 cm.).
